Dr. Deborah Chew
Dr. Deborah Chew was born in San Francisco and grew up in Oakland. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree, as well her Doctorate of Optometry, from U.C. Berkeley. After graduating with honors, she served as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University Of California School Of Optometry for 5 years before settling down and starting a family. She also worked for a prominent eye surgeon in the area where she provided the pre- and post operative care of cataract and refractive surgery patients and fitted specialized contact lenses for hard- to- fit eyes. Dr. Chew enjoys seeing all types of patients but specializes in contact lenses. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the California Optometric Association, and served on the board of directors for the Alameda-Contra Costa Optometric Society and the Bay Area Optometric Association for 7 years. Dr. Chew is married to Orson Leong, a dentist who also practices in the bay area, and has 2 sons. In her spare time Dr. Chew likes to travel, cook, play golf, and shop.
Dr. Brian Gin
Dr. Brian Gin grew up in Fremont, California and graduated from Mission San Jose High School in 1998. He completed his bachelor’s degree in Animal Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego in 2002. In 2006, he received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Brian is the son of retired senior partner, Dr. Victor Gin, and has been practicing with Fremont Optometric Group since he graduated. Dr. Gin enjoys educating and fitting patients in CRT lenses to give them freedom from glasses/contacts and help control progression of their nearsighted prescription.
He currently lives in Fremont and is married to his optometry classmate, Dr. Sara Chiu. They have a 6 year old cockapoo, Toby, and two little boys. Toby serves as the unofficial office mascot and occasionally accompanies Dr. Gin to work. He enjoys cycling, golf, BBQ’ing and PC gaming.
Dr. Clifford Leong
Dr. Clifford Leong was born and raised in the San Francisco Peninsula. He earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology at the University of California, San Diego and his Doctorate of Optometry from the State University of New York College of Optometry in New York City.
Upon graduation from optometry school, he completed a post-graduate research fellowship in Cornea and Contact Lenses at the State University of New York College of Optometry where he worked on publishing a paper on orthokeratology, instructed contact lens labs for optometry students and gave lectures on specialty contact lenses. He also worked for a prominent eye surgeon in New York where he provided pre and post operative care for refractive surgery patients and fitted specialized contact lenses for hard-to-fit eyes.
In his free time, Dr. Leong likes to cook, travel, play basketball, snowboard and cheer on the Giants, 49ers and Warriors.
Dr. Gina Alexander
Dr. Gina Alexander is a proud Northern California native. She was born in Redwood City, CA spent the majority of her childhood in Dublin, CA before moving to Chico, CA during high school. She graduated with honors from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Dr. Alexander then attended the University of California Berkeley School of Optometry where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry. While attending optometry school, she was an active member of the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society, Students’ California Optometric Association, and American Optometric Student Association. Dr. Alexander is trained and certified to fit various types of contact lenses (including scleral and ortho-K lenses), as well as treat and manage ocular diseases including: glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye syndrome. She participates in the co-management of cataract and refractive surgeries as well. Dr. Alexander enjoys working with patients of all ages, especially children. When she is not in the office, Dr. Alexander can be found performing school vision screenings throughout Alameda and Contra Costa County. In her free time, Dr. Alexander loves to water ski, mountain bike, scuba dive, go to the farmer’s market and go hiking with her husband Ryan. Dr. Alexander’s passion for traveling has brought her around the world. She has a personal goal to visit every continent at least once, so far she has been to four out of seven.
Dr. Cindy Sakihara
Dr. Cindy Sakihara has been an associate Optometrist at Fremont Optometric Group since 1993. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of California at Berkeley and her Doctor of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry, now Marshall B. Ketchum University. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association. Along with Primary Care, Dr. Sakihara enjoys working with contact lens patients, and works with local Ophthalmologists to comanage refractive surgery, cataract, and glaucoma patients.
In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and helping at the local school, church, and sports programs her children are involved in.
Dr. Marc Dea
Dr. Marc Dea received his undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from U.C. Davis and his Doctor of Optometry from the U.C. School of Optometry at Berkeley. Before entering private practice, Dr. Dea completed a postgraduate teaching fellowship at U.C. Berkeley.
Dr. Dea’s professional philosophy includes forward thinking, preventative care, and utilization of modern technological advances to complement traditional diagnostic theories/practice. Dr. Dea joined Fremont Optometric Group back in August of 1999 and has been loved by our patients ever since. He enjoys many things including working with patients who have contact lenses. He also enjoys collaborating with ophthalmologists for the management of those patients considering or undergoing laser refractive surgery. With all patients, Dr. Dea believes that it is critical for patients to understand their diagnosis and treatment plan. To this end, he takes pride in his ability to explain complex terminology in a format that is understandable and meaningful.
In his spare time, Dr. Dea enjoys spending time with the recent additions to his family: his wife and 2 young boys. He also enjoys reading, digital photography, and watching sports.
Dr. Clarissa Sin
Dr. Clarissa Sin earned her undergraduate education from the University of California at Davis in Genetics and Economics. She went on to complete her doctorate at the State University of New York’s School of Optometry in 2009. Dr. Sin is licensed to treat many eye conditions including glaucoma, dry eyes, corneal reshaping, and surgery co-management. She enjoys working with patients of every age and has developed a fondness for pediatric eye care and vision therapy.
Dr. Nguyen attended UCLA where he received his bachelor’s degree in psychobiology. He went on to graduate from the Southern California College of Optometry with highest honors and received numerous awards for academic excellence, leadership, and community service.
His clinical experience includes internships at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Las Vegas, Acoma Indian Health Service, Wellish Vision Institute, Garden Grove Boys and Girls Club, and University Eye Center at Fullerton. Dr. Nguyen is passionate about educating patients so they can work together to find the perfect solution for their visual needs.
In his free time, Dr. Nguyen enjoys staying active by playing basketball, hiking, and rock climbing. He is also actively involved with his church and medical missions.
